Monday (Sept. 14)-We finished our discussion on teenage roadblocks and how we could get past them. We also started our discussion on emotions.
Tuesday (Sept. 15)-We finished our discussion on emotions and took a video quiz in our smash books. Wednesday (Sept. 16)-We discussed stress and how it has an effect on our bodies and minds. Thursday (Sept. 17)-We did a "Stress Workshop" in class and did five different activities that students can use in their lives to cope with stress. Friday (Sept. 18)-We discussed the different types of communication and how we can be good communicators. 9/8 (Tuesday): We glued in the rest of our smash book pieces for Unit 1 together as a class.
9/9 and 9/10 (Wed. and Thurs): Students worked on their Vision Boards in class. A vision board is collage of images, pictures, and affirmations that represent your dreams and desires (aka values and goals). 9/11 (Friday): We discussed Havinghurts Developmental Tasks and some Road Blocks that teens might face on their road of development. 8/31 (Monday): We discussed positive self-concept and how we could raise our own self-concept as well as how we could help bring others up.
9/1 (Tuesday): We finished our discussion on Self-Concept and started our discussion on values. Students had to narrow a list of 72 values down to their top 10 values. 9/2 (Wednesday): We discussed values and what they mean to us. Each student came up with their top 10 values and wrote about why they are so important to them. 9/3 (Thursday): We continued our discussion on values and compared what we value to what others in Third World Countries might value. We watched a video and did some writing about it. 9/4 (Friday): We discussed how our values determine what our goals will be. We discussed short term and long term goals and set some of each. Welcome back! It was a great first week.
This week we worked on our Smashbooks! This is a new idea I am using for note taking. In my opinion, it's a lot better than note packets. This week students were responsible for decorating their Smashbook (a composition notebook provided by the school) to make it their own. It will be a journal of sorts, so make it personal. Students are also responsible for cutting out all of the glue-ins for our first unit. If you were absent, please see me and I can get you a copy of those. Or you can access it in the dropbox. |
